In my search for a case for my iphone 4 this one popped up. It had good reviews so I bought it. It does say for the iphone 3g and 3gs, however seeing that it appeared in my search I figured why not. Well, it does not fit the iphone 4 well at all. It may be great for the 3g and gs, but if you are planning on using this for the 4 save your money and keep looking.

This review is for the Defender case, I have no experience with the commuter.

This is a GREAT case for the iphone. It does supurb in protecting the iphone3gs. If you open mine up it looks brand new. My phone has dropped in mud, off horseback, tumbled down the hall at work when it caught on doorjams (I know clutsy), has hit grass, concrete, pavement, wood, sand pretty much everything but water (I keep my phones FAR from water lol). But this case looks great, you couldn’t tell how many times it has taken a spill (partially due to the old model belt clip that the phone would fall out of but been fixed under warranty…waiting for my new belt clip that should hold the phone tighter). You want to protect your phone this is the case.

Now the bad, sigh everything has a flip side. Well the minor thing is due to the case sometimes it is not easy to hit the very edge of the screen (my fingers aren’t exactly tiny either, my nephew and sister have no problem with it).

And the BIG downer… Don’t expect to dock your phone if its in the case. You can use headphones, your can use the data cable to hook up to a computer and you can use the ATT car charger. Thats pretty much it. If you have a igo car charger that you change tips forget it, the case is too deep, it won’t plug in. Got a nice clock/radio or TV or other entertainment component that has an Iphone/Ipod dock, you can forget about it with this case. Now if you want to take the silicone cover off then remove the phone from the hard case everytime you can do it. But as long as the phone is in the case you cannot use a dock (where the phone sits upright), the case that protects the phone is too deep to allow it to plug in. And though a simple extention adaptor is all that would need to be made I have contacted Otterbox and they said they have no intention of making it, they are only concerned with the case, not if it works with other equipment, and I have not found any one else making the adaptor. So for me its a love/hate relationship with this case. It does what you want your case to do but unfortunately at the expense of the phones utility.

For me, I still have my phone in the otter box to protect it, I use my Ipod touch on everything with docks, sigh so much for combining down to one device lol. So as you can see as much as it pains me to loose some utility, it just protects that much better than anything else I have seen on the market. If someone else comes out with one that will protect as well and let me dock then I will definately switch. But there you have it from someone who has used it for several months.

I’ve been using this case for about 6-8 weeks now and find that under the case my phone has been scratched all to hell. The silver frame around the screen is just plain tore up. This phone was pristine when I put it in the case and I made very sure there was no dust under the rubber protector.

Eh…this case is pretty wicked, but that’s really not saying much, seeing how it’s my first, so there’s really nothing to compare it to. Though, to my credit, I researched for two and a half days straight to find the best otterbox on the market for my personality. I settled on this one, obviously, and it’s worked out a-okay, I guess.

Anywhozzle, the phone’s slipped off of the arm of the couch and my bed a couple of times and no damage has occured (though plush carpet did most likely break the fall). Overall, for the price, it’s a pretty swell buy!

Works well. Easy to put on. Comes with a clear plastic screen protector, but I couldn’t seem to get it on without air bubbles. The case itself works great for my needs. Not too hard to pull in/out of the pocket, but adds a much better grip in the hands.

It does interfere with my iphone dock in my car though, so I have to remove the case for that, which is a downer.
