This transmitter is greatly under powered to the point that it’s useless. It’s too bad it has all the features anyone could want for a FM transmitter.

This product could not find a single station to work with. Even using the scan technology it would not work. On the same order as this, I ordered a different FM transmitter and it worked perfectly on station this one would not work with. Save you money, don’t touch this. iPhone 3GS.

I had such high hopes for this thing. The SmartScan feature does not work at all, not even a little bit, it’s completely worthless. Too bad, because that’s one of the main reasons I bought this product — I get tired of having to manually search for an “empty” FM frequency when driving on long trips, in and out of range of radio stations. The sound quality is mediocre at best. The original iTrip that I got for my iPod had MUCH better sound quality. With this one, the sound fades in and out, and the volume does not stay at a constant level. I’ve tried messing around with all the sound settings, but it does no good. On a positive note, the RDS feature is cool, but even that seems to be hit or miss.

I bought this product because of the hack that everyone mentioned about being able to get it to 87.9. I had a much older iTrip that would just go to 87.9 and it was the best transmitter that I had ever owned. I bought another transmitter when we got iPhones, and I was bummed that it didn’t support 87.9. We could never get a clear station on it. I replaced it with this product because of what everyone had written about it here. I will say that I had to follow slightly different instructions than were captured here. I had to put the device in European mode rather than the approach that some others mentioned with holding the center button down. Nevertheless, I got what I wanted, and it works.

This product has worked well so far. I get static every once in a while, but the majority of the time it is as clear as it can be. I would recommend this product to others.
