I bought this for my Ipod 80 gig video and it was a complete waste of money. The Ipod Video doesn’t support it and you are better to buy the plug in remote or the plug in remote with receiver.

I have the 60 Gb Video Ipod and the MENU button doesn’t work, also you must have the Ipod Dock to use it.

The Apple Remote is included with the iMac G5 and works great with it and Front Row. However, for the iPod, it’s almost useless. The lack of menu navigation capability using the remote is crippling. In short, don’t buy this remote, look at other non-Apple remotes that are more full-featured.

Got this when I was buying my MacBook Pro and went on an accessory craze as I was sooo excited.

It’s a remote. It serves its purpose. No big whooop.

I must say that I hardly used it at first. If my school was a bit more advanced I would have liked to show off with my presentations and videos and stuff, but their projectors are not compatible, sigh. I have recently started P90x though, so I have taken in out of its tomb (packaging) and ensure it is always within easy reach for when I am struggling with these routines. The guarantee you, the pause definitely button works!

OK, here’s how you’re supposed to use the Apple Remote with an iPod. Plug the iPod into the new Universal Dock, turn the iPod on, select a playlist, grab the remote, sit down in your chair, start playing music. Now, do you want to change playlists or adjust some other setting on your iPod? Well guess what? The menu button on the Apple Remote doesn’t work with iPods. So you have to get up, go across the room to where the iPod is plugged into the stereo and change the settings on the iPod. So what can you do with this remote with an iPod. Well you can pause songs, you can increase or decrease the volume and you can skip back or forth through songs in a playlist. Basically this is the iPod equivalent of a 1960s TV remote control. It’s a complete waste of money because you can’t browse your playlists or change settings on the iPod. I don’t know what Steve Jobs was thinking when this piece of junk was released, or what he was smoking. Summary: AVOID!
